What should I work on?

A backlog is only useful if it can answer that. How pins are ranked without anyone grooming them, and the ways to ask.

Got a spare hour? Ask your agent "what should I work on?" and you get three pins that are ready to start, each with a reason. You pick one, and the agent claims it, branches, does the work and links the PR.

That only works if the ranking is good, and nobody wants to spend Friday afternoon dragging tickets around. So nobody does.

Priority without grooming

Every pin is ranked by how pressing it is right now, from the fields the agent filled in when it pinned it:

  • Payoff: how much better things get once it's done, and for how many people.
  • Size: a bigger job costs more, but big high-payoff work isn't buried under easy small stuff.
  • Risk: how bad it gets when it bites, and how likely that is.
  • What it unblocks: a pin that other pins are waiting on is worth more, and so is anything they're waiting on.
  • Sightings: a pin agents keep running into is a pin that matters.
  • Harder later, and whether you've already agreed an approach.

It's worked out when you ask, never stored, so it moves as the backlog does. You don't see a number, just a level and the reasons behind it.

Ways to ask

With the Claude Code plugin, there's a skill for each mood:

  • Recommend: three ready pins with a reason each. You choose.
  • Quick win: the agent picks the best small pin and ships it end to end.
  • Pin roulette: the agent commits to fixing a random small pin before it sees which one. Surprisingly fun.
  • Epic: for a big pin, the agent splits it into steps that each ship on their own, linked so they come up in order.
  • Handoff: if you need to stop partway, the agent releases the pin with a note on where it got to.

Releases

A release is just a pin that the work it needs blocks. Everything under it rises in priority, its "blocked by" list is what's left, and asking for pins that are ready to start leaves out anything still waiting on something else. No separate planning tool, just the backlog.
